My path to becoming a physical therapist was convoluted. I started my post high school education as a biomedical engineering student. After finding this was not the path for me, I would eventually graduate with a degree in Mathematics from Rutgers in New Jersey. Finding a job would prove to be difficult, thus I thought it best to pursue a master’s in Finance from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, NJ.
As with engineering, the prospects of working in finance simply didn’t appeal to me. Having had a history of knee surgeries following sports injuries, I had plenty of experience with physical therapy. After much introspection, I applied to the UMDNJ physical therapy program (now Rutgers) and graduated in 2014.
Since graduating, I have taken many courses to enhance various aspects of the physical therapy skillset. Regarding continuing education, I have completed many courses to enhance my manual skill set including, but not limited to Maitland, Mulligan, Taping and Instrument-Assisted Soft-Tissue Mobilization. I’ve taken my craft quite seriously and became a certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist in 2018 – only 5% of therapists currently have this distinction. As such, I’m an expert in Orthopedics as it pertains to physical therapy.
My greatest strength, however, is connecting with my clients and developing rapport. I believe it is difficult to be successful in this field if you cannot gain the trust of those that you treat. Furthermore, it is critical to be an advocate for our clients as they do not have all the answers to this ever increasingly complex healthcare system.
I hope my methods of therapy will bring the relief you seek and if I can’t solve the problems you are facing from a physical/neurological standpoint, I will certainly point you in the right direction!
